Fraser Island lies just off the coast of Queensland, approximately 250 kilometres (160 miles) north of the state capital, Brisbane
- The island is about 123 kilometres (76 miles) long and 22 kilometres (14 miles) wide.
- It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and is the largest sand island in the world.
