Ingham was settled in the 1870s and sugar plantations were established in the lower Herbert River Valley

• The town is named after William Bairstow Ingham - a British colonist sugarcane plantation owner.
• The town has a strong Italian and Spanish history with the 1920s and 1930s seeing the largest influx of these immigrants.
