The Hinchinbrook Division was created on 11 November 1879, under the Divisional Boards Act 1879 with a population of 326
- The region is named after nearby Hinchinbrook Island, thought to be named after one of the titles held by the Montagu family, formerly Earls of Halifax.
- Sugarcane, banana, tropical fruits cattle farming and tourism are the major economic contributors.
