Cook Region

Cook covers most of the eastern and central parts of Cape York Peninsula, the most northerly section of the Australian mainland

• Cook is named after British navigator Captain James Cook, who charted the coast and landed on Possession Island in 1770
• The original inhabitants of Cook Region were the Guugu Yimithirr Aboriginal people
