Narrandera had its first recorded mention as a pastoral station or "run" (Narrandera Run) in 1848
- Gundagai is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “cut at the back of the knee with a tomahawk” or “going upstream” or “poor crows”.
- The town is famous for its "Dog on the Tuckerbox Pioneer Monument", as well as a rich history of bushrangers.
