Narrandera Shire

Narrandera Shire is located in the geographical centre of the Riverina, with over 1,500 kilometres (930 miles) of roads within its boundaries.

  • The first white man to pass through the district was Captain Charles Sturt, who camped on the edge of the Murrumbidgee River on December 10th 1829.
  • Narrandera is said to be derived from the Wiradjuri word "Narrungdera" which means "place of lizard or goanna".
