7 Established by Viceroy Luis de Velasco II in 1592, the 513 metre by 259 metre (20 acre) Parque Alameda Central (Alameda Central) is the oldest public park in the Americas and took its name from the álamos (poplar trees) planted over its rectangular expanse.

11 Surprisingly for such a large public space, don't expect to find any street food or vendors in Alameda Central, - they're banned by the city and that bylaw is enforced rigorously.
