3 Italian civil engineer and architect Adamo Boari began construction in 1904 on the Neoclassical/Art Nouveau (exterior) and Art Deco (interior) structure, which rose from the site that was the Convent of Santa Isabel, whose church was built in 1680.
4 Originally scheduled to take four years to complete, it actually took 30 due to the Mexican Revolution, bureaucracy and funding which saw it finally completed in 1934.
