The town of Normanton takes its name from the adjacent Norman River

• An expedition to explore the Norman and Bynoe Rivers lead to the creation of a new town site, on the Norman River in May 1867.
• The Burns Philp Mercantile store opened in 1884 and is the oldest intact Burns Philp store in Queensland.
