Cootamundra-Gundagai Shire
The shire occupies the slopes of the western side of the Great Dividing Range, between Yass and Tumut and to the north
- Cootamundra is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “low lying place”.
- Gundagai is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “cut at the back of the knee with a tomahawk” or “going upstream” or “poor crows”.
