DAY 166
Week 24
CORINTH (Texas, USA) to SALINA (Kansas, USA)
Sunday December 3rd, 2006
TODAYS MILEAGE – 421 miles or 678 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 37456 miles or 60280 kilometres
Head West young man!!!
What's up with me and all these late nights/early mornings??? I was up with my brother in–law Mike, offering my thoughts on why the new PC he's building is not firing up. I got to bed around 2AM and asleep by about 3AM. My sleeping habits are really starting to annoy me.
In case you're interested, Mike's issues were too small a power supply and wrong memory.
I got packed up, said my goodbyes (for a second day in a row) and got on the road around 11 o'clock. My 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer purred like a kitten even though you could feel the extra weight of the tandem axle trailer and my Harley.
Even though it was a glorious day, full of sunshine and not a cloud in the sky, you could see black ice in the bridges, over-passes and in areas where there was very little sunshine. The outside temperature didn't get above 12°F (–12°C) (with the wind chill) for the day, so I didn't sink the right foot into it for fear or doing high speed donuts.
The plan was to try and make Fort Collins (Colorado, USA), which would have made it a 900 mile (1451 kilometre) mile day, but due to my late start to the day and the fact that the light was fading fast, I decided to park up for the evening in the town of Salina (Kansas, USA).
Tomorrow I'm going to try and hit Salt Lake City (Utah, USA) and am more than a bit worried about the ice and snow when going through the mountains from Cheyenne (Wyoming, USA) to Salt Lake City (Utah, USA), but nothing ventured – nothing gained.
It's days like this that I miss the tropics of Australia.
