Magnetic Island (Wulguru: Yunbenun) is an island 8 kilometres (5 miles) offshore from the city of Townsville

• Coral, stone and hoop pine were collected as a source of building materials for Townsville. Substantial quantities of gold were also mined in 1886.
• The island is a holiday destination with many hotels and several resorts in operation to cater for all levels of service.
