DAY 3a

MIRAFLORES ~ Around Town (Lima, PER)

Thursday September 11th, 2014
TODAYS MILEAGE – 5 miles or 8 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 10059 miles or 16188 kilometres

We spent the day just wondering around Miraflores, one of 43 districts of the Lima Province.

Miraflores is known for its shopping areas, gardens, flower-filled parks and beaches, it is one of the upscale (and thus very touristy) districts that make up the city of Lima.

At dawn I headed out of the San Agustin Exclusive, turned left at the end of the street and headed for the ocean. Instead of finding a beach, I found the Larcomar ~ a US style shopping mall, cut 100 or so metres above the shoreline.

After ducking into the Marriott Hotel Casino, to exchange some of my US dollars for a more favourable rate than the official bank rate, I meandered over to the University district in search of the elusive cholera carts. They were harder to find than a fulfilled politicians promise - oh well.

I ended up hooking back up with the rest of the touring party and then spent the rest of the day alternating between looking at the local architecture (which I thoroughly enjoy) or seemingly visiting every knick-knack and trinket store in the city (may I stick another blunt pencil in my eye), which made my cervezas taste a whole lot better at the end of the day.
