DAY 3

MIRAFLORES (Lima, PER)

Thursday September 11th, 2014
TODAYS MILEAGE – 5 miles or 8 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 10059 miles or 16188 kilometres

Aside from the usual tiredness and dehydration associated with long haul travel, everyone arrived safe & sound. The same can't be said for Raylene & Coops luggage.

As most of us had flown in the previous day, our first full day in South America was basically a "free day", with no tour activities planned. The general consensus was to head out and do anything you wanted and meet up as a group later that evening, to go over the entire trip schedule with our tour "CEO".

One of my usual customs when travelling overseas, is to head out the hotel at sparrows fart with my camera and a couple of hundred US dollars, searching for the early morning markets, in order to satisfy my craving for some local street food and/or "cholera cart" cuisine.

One thing that became immediately clear, is that there was no street vendors of any type. Miraflores appears to cater primarily to foreign tourists and upmarket local Peruvians. Not at all what I expected.

Monetarily, Peru utilises their Nuevo Sol (S), which was trading at the official bank rate of S2.91 per US dollar (US$). Heading to the money changers or street Cambio's was a bit iffy due to the proliferation of counterfeit notes, but I ended up at a licenced casino and received S3.75 per US dollar (US$).

G Adventures official meet & greet with Renzo, our CEO ~ "Chief Experience Officer", was a catered sit down three course meal at Restaurante Huaca Pucllana. If the quality of the meal from that establishment is anything to go by, we're going to be looking for bigger clothing after leaving South America - it simply was that great Be Happy
