Week 1

PACIFIC PARADISE (Queensland, AUS)

Saturday September 18th, 2010

TODAYS MILEAGE – 47 miles or 76 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 1099 miles or 1769 kilometres

Parked up at Pacific Paradise with a brilliant mate of mine, Frankie.

Saturday is generally the day that all the chores from the week need attending, so why should us visiting be any different. Frankie, being the fair maiden of the coast needed a bit of the hand, of the "not real bright, but we can lift heavy weights" variety. Jungle and myself soon had the ute loaded up with all sorts of crap and headed for the local dump. I'll give you the tip that a visit to the local Refuse Management Facility would never rate a mention, nor would it be on any sane person's holiday itinerary, but it turned out to be a good giggle. Not only was it the cleanest dump I've ever visited, but the young fella dispensing the fun ride admission tickets was an absolute hoot – well worth the price of admission!

Lunch was one of those simple pleasures consisting of great food/company/setting. Being a local, Frankie suggested we all park up on one of Mooloolaba beaches, after a quick visit to the local fish shop. A kilogram and a half of fresh sweet medium sized local prawns, a couple of Moreton Bay Bugs, a bottle of chilled Pinot Grigio and a couple of cold beers made for a spectacular and cheap lunch. Brilliant!!!

That evening, couple of mates of Frankie's son Dirk, were playing in the local rugby league Grand Final, so we trundled off over to the local showgrounds and joined several thousand locals in cheering on whomever they were going for. As there was only one "wet area" where drinking was allowed, we soon joined a thousand other revellers in the fenced of area known as the "Animal Bar".

Now picture for a minute Jungle's first live rugby league match, standing on the hill, in a caged up area, with a mob of lunatics who've on the gas all day – there was a shitload going on around us, let alone the rugby match. The game was of a real high standard, but Jungle came away laughing his head off at all the goings on in the Animal Bar. You just had to be there as they say.

A great feed of curried chicken wings awaited us when we got back to Frankie's and then it was lights out on a great day.
