2 On the Waiau River, just outside the hamlet of Clifden, we came across this pedestrian walk bridge constructed of twenty-seven steel cables, attached to concrete pillars (clad to resemble stone pillars), which still has its historic wooden decking.

9 The 115.5 metre (379 foot) Clifden Suspension Bridge was built in 1898-99 to replace a punt which had operated since the early days of settlement and is New Zealand's longest wooden suspension bridge.
