Monday August 14th, 2017

TODAYS MILEAGE – 500 miles or 805 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 34,470 miles or 55,474 kilometres

Discovered in April 1976, Terracotta Warriors Pit 3 measures 406 feet (124 metres) long, 322 feet (98 metres) wide, 16 feet (5 metres) deep, has just over 1.5 acres (6,000 m²) under roof and is built in the shape of the Chinese character "凹".

The unearthed artefacts include 68 terracotta warriors, four horses and one chariot all arranged in a unique layout, that experts believe to be the command centre or headquarters for all the groups located in Pit 1 and Pit 2.

Archaeologists spent all of 1977 excavating this pit as its contents were not burned like those in the other pits and the Terracotta Warriors unearthed in this pit were found to be in far better condition than those found in the other two pits.
