The "Drum Tower" of Xi'an measures 112 feet (34 metres) high, 172 feet (53 metres) in length, 124 feet (38 meters) in width and erected during the "Ming Dynasty", around 1380.
The Drum Tower gets its name from the large hall that contains several large drums, which are decorated with both Chinese calligraphy and characters, symbolising good fortune and were used to signal the running of time. On rare occasions the drums were also utilised as an alarm in emergency situations.
