TRIP MILEAGE – 4,008 miles or 6,450 kilometres
The final day of this trip started out with heavy overcast skies that were threatening for the heavens to open up, and in places, it actually did. I was enjoying driving with my weathershield protected window down, just taking in the smells that come with fresh rain - one of lifes simplist, but greatest pleasures. 
The seemingly "Nirvanic" moment was shattered only 36 miles (60 kilometres) from home, when a driver blew through a stop sign and forced me into incoming traffic just before a narrow two lane bridge, that I was appoaching at 65 mph (100 kph).
I literally had nowhere to go, but fortunatley for me, the lead car with the oncoming traffic saw it all unfold and slowed down considerably to let me get back on my side of the road. Things got real busy - real quick!
The irony was not lost on me that I'd literally driven half way around the country only to get taken out on my doorstep.
