DAY 4a
ECHUCA ~ The Great Aussie Beer Shed (Victoria, AUS)
Saturday December 23rd, 2017
TODAYS MILEAGE – 150 miles or 241 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 1,679 miles or 2,702 kilometres
At the recommendation of a couple of great guys - Mark & Tony, the owners of the National Holden Motor Museum, I drove about 4 miles (6 km's) south of Eucha to the The Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum.
As museums go, it was facinating, interesting and trip down memory lane, but if you're expecting Musée du Louvre or The Smithsonian type displays or facilities, then you'll be sorely disappointed. But don't let that stop you from visiting, as owner Neil Thomas has put together a wide & varied collection of iconic Aussie products, that also includes well as over 3,000 beer steins.
Be sure to purchase one of the souvenir 'stubbie coolers', it comes with an ice-cold beer for you to wander around one of the numerous exhibits. Talk about Aussie ingenuity - they don't have a liquor licence and legally can't sell alcohol at any time, but if there is no law preventing them giving away a free beer with every stubbie cooler sold.
I reckon the museum counts itself lucky I had to drive out to a mates family farm, or I dare say I'd have one hell of a stubbie cooler collection, as 10 'Oxford Scholars' for a Coopers Sparkling Ale was $4 cheaper than the local pub ….. and I didn't have to wait for the pub to open at noon!
