DAY 32
Week 5
DWANGA (Central, MWI) to KARONGA (Northern, MWI)
Monday December 12th, 2016
TODAYS MILEAGE – 187 miles or 301 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 17607 miles or 28336 kilometres
It was another early start this morning, as the crew wanted to get out of the Ngala Beach Lodge and on the road by 7AM. Not sure why, but we didn't make that deadline by about 15 minutes, which all things considered, is good for "African time".
After a quick stop around Tunduma to check out a rubber plantation, we parked up for lunch at the local Shoprite in the regional town of Mzuzu. I went in search of some ice after restocking my esky, but none of the local shops had any. Never fear, plenty of locals here and so the the great ice hunt was on. I ended up with 5 bags of block ice from 4 different fellas after word got out that this "mizungu" had cash for frozen water.
From there we crossed over what I called the Livingstonia Range and headed north up the western side of Lake Malawi and on into Maji Zuwa ~ Water & Sun Resort, which would be our home for the next couple of days.

Day 26 - Northern Lake Malawi
It’s a short drive to our next destination, situated in the northern region of Lake Malawi. As we will be spending the next 3 nights here, you will have sufficient time to explore the area. Lake Malawi is regarded as one of the most beautiful freshwater lakes in the world, tropical fish (the colourful kind) swim past in schools of brilliant blues, yellows and purples. It may also be possible to book an excursion to the Livingstonia Mission (full day hike).
