Week 2
SYDNEY (New South Wales, AUS)
Thursday September 23rd, 2010
TODAYS MILEAGE – 3 miles or 5 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 1689 miles or 2718 kilometres
Another day in the office, while Jungle plays with the other cool kids.
While I was working my dot off, Jungle went of exploring the city off Sydney again. He's become quite adept to the workings of the "CityRail" system. With a bit of help from the internet, we worked out it was far cheaper to get a 7 day unrestricted pass, that allowed him to get on and off the trains and buses between the hotel and Central Station — about 11 miles (17 kilometres) all up.
We also planned for Jungle to go visit the Oaks Harmony, where we were staying for the Golden Oldies Festival, to get an extra night as we were going to the NRL Grand Final. It took him a bit to find the hotel, as it's kind of hidden away, with no real signage, but eventually he did find it after walking up and down the streets of Chinatown.
As we had booked the rooms as part of the Festival package, we couldn't get an extension. We were told to contact the booking coordinators, who are in New Zealand and thus, not answering our calls. A quick call to Batesy in Alice Springs and it was all sorted and for a cheaper rate than the Festivals — score!!!
Unfortunately Jungle didn't come back from Chinatown unscathed. He takes his shirt off to have a shower and his back is covered with bright red polka dots about the size of softballs. Apparently this is the aftermath of his "traditional" Chinese massage, which included cupping. Cupping...pfft!!! More like beat the living suitcase out of him.
A quick dash back down to "The Ranch" for a quick feed, a punt on the "Dishlickers" and some replenishments for the esky. Can't see any reason to haul and esky around the countryside and not avail oneself of it's capabilities, especially with beers being $9.00 each at the hotel.
