Rubber necking across the USA!!!
I loaded up the Harley with my camera gear and decided to take a few shots of the local sights. The best part of half a day was spent simply checking out the interesting architecture of Texas' Capitol.
First stop was the memorial/statue of legendary Blues guitarist Steve Ray Vaughn.
From there to as over to Katz's Deli & Bar for a bite to eat, as I was told it was the most authentic Jewish deli outside of New York. Their pastrami was "to die for". What is pastrami you ask??? The simple answer is corned beef that has been smoked. A more detailed explanation can be had by following this link.
Not knowing what it tastes like and having had corned beef way too many times growing up because of economic embarrassments, I asked the waiter for a sample before committing to a ½ pound of salt brined & smoked former bovine creature, jammed between two slices of rye. The waiter thought I was off my rocker as "everyone know's what pastrami on rye tastes like". Yeah ... well ... I ain't everyone!
We had a bit of a giggle about it and he returns with a piece of this pink, stringy, salty piece of meat that seemed devoid of flavor. Not my cup of tea, but I will reserve judgement until I hit one of the famous New York deli's like the Carnegie Deli or the original Katz's. I settled on the Yankee Pot Roast, which consists of US prime pot roasted beef with melted Muenster cheese and sautéed onions on grilled Jewish rye. Awesome sandwich.
Last stop of the day was the Texas State Capitol Building. I actually liked the tour due to the history an architecture of the building.
Here's what I found.
