After 9½ years at Micron Technology Inc, I think I had become somewhat jaded and tired of all the shit that goes on with being part of a "multi-national". I had somehow managed to get into a rut, in which I needed a challenge or a life change, but thought at the time I just needed a break.
Why not head out on an 3000 mile road trip and visit the brother and blood blister in law in Dallas and hopefully find a cure for my corporate blues - nothing ventured, nothing gained I reckon.
