DAY 12
Week 2
ALICE SPRINGS (Northern Territory, AUS) to ADELAIDE (South Australia, AUS)
Sunday May 23rd, 2004
TODAYS MILEAGE – 835 miles or 1344 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 12421 miles or 19990 kilometres
As Qantas only has the one Sunday flight to Adelaide, we bid our farewells and headed out to the airport around 11AM.
Now bear in mind that the Alice Springs Airport is regional and loads planes from both the front and rear. With Fluxy, Sonia and myself taking one one exit row, we could hear someone grumbling about all the exit row seats being taken. The voice was getting louder the closer it was getting to us, at which the voice stopped directly behind me.
Fluxy looked at each other and started laughing, at which point the voice responded "You buggers think it's funny I'm crammed into this seat". I responded with "The way you're whining like a bitch Simple, I'm surprised they didn't just cram you into the hold with the pets!!!"
We both turn around and face our ol' mate Norm "Simple" Bloxam who was headed down south to a funeral. The look on his face was priceless and in true "Simple" style he says "How are ya brothers - you both can still get fucked for taking the exit row seats". We spent the entire flight catching up and having a good giggle.
Getting into Adelaide mid-afternoon left us without a lot options in travelling out to Darky & Jude's place in Smoky Bay. It's an 8 hour drive at the best of times, but not one to be done at night in a rental car. We got the name of an ex-Alice Springs couple who own the Norfolk Motor Inn and parked up there for the night. We'll head out west first thing in the morning, when there's plenty to daylight to complete the drive.
