DAY 1
Week 1
BOISE (Idaho, USA) to McCALL (Idaho, USA)
Saturday January 13th, 2001
TODAYS MILEAGE – 172 miles or 277 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 172 miles or 277 kilometres
After organising everyone to meet at the Albertsons in Eagle at 8AM, we had 7 vehicles in convoy headed to McCall.
A mate of mine had lent me two of his snow mobiles, on the proviso that I drop them off at his place in McCall, so I let everyone go on ahead while I got used to towing in slippery conditions. We all stopped in Cascade for a pit stop before getting into McCall around 11AM.
Not wanting to waste any time, the crew picked up their sleds from Cheap Thrills Rentals, who we all used the previous year and who are absolutely brilliant in dealing with.
By 11:30 we were all assembled at the ranger station on the top end Lake Payette, just off Wagon Wheel road, before heading off for an afternoon of exploring this winter playground.
We all got back to the ranger station around 5:30PM, packed everything up, dropped the sleds off, had a quick shower and were ready to dine at The Mill by our allotted 7PM booking. I gotta say the whole dining experience was pretty ordinary at best.
By 9PM we're all taking turns in either sitting by the fire or in the hot tub, all the while the scientific testing of White Russian had started in earnest.
