DAY 15

Week 3

LAS VEGAS (Nevada, USA) to GRAND CANYON ~ National Park (Arizona, USA)
and return

Saturday November 18th, 2000
TODAYS MILEAGE – 400 miles or 644 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 11068 miles or 17812 kilometres

It'd be fair to say that we were all a bit seedy, dragging the chain somewhat and it was a bit rough on the optics when taking in this mighty fine brand new day. But enought of that nature boy shit - we had to get Dash off to the airport in order to catch the big tin crow back to Boise.

Another day and another call to Look Tours as Fluxy and I were still waiting to be picked up at 11:05. You wouldn't believe it, but they didn't show up again. We rang them at 11:30 only to be told we'd been left of the pick up list for that day. They said they'd send a bus back to pick us up. I'd visited the Grand Canyon back in 1992 and if it wasn't for the fact that Fluxy had never seen the place, I would have told them to shove the plane as well as the bus right up their collective arses.

We all piled into a twin-engined plane (I think they bought it of Dodgey Brothers) and headed East for 45 minutes to the little single runway that is the Boulder "International" airport. Which in summer reportedly handles well over 400 take offs and landings a day.

Like the first time I visited, I was in awe of one of the natural wonders of the world. You can't but help standing there looking over the Canyon like a stunned mullet with your mouth open. The light of the setting sun bouncing of the canyon walls is breathtaking. If you ever get to Vegas, spend the 150 bucks and do the afternoon tour.

We got back to Vegas in the dark around 7 o'clock and chilled out in our room for a couple of hours before walking down to the MGM Grand for a 10 PM show featuring the host of the Tonight Show, Jay Leno. Jay was pretty funny but as he does on the TV show, if a joke doesn't go over well, he tries and forces it to work. The seating also sucked big time, they had 8 people sitting at a table that was 6 feet long by 2 feet wide. You could hardly see anything.

After the show Fluxy decided he'd back to the Mirage and I headed off to find a nightclub. I found the outside amphitheater at Harrah's and had an absolute ball dancing and running amok. Cyclone Fitzy was in the house!!!! Bear in mind, we were outside and the temperature was 0c (32f) but never mind as that's what happens when bodies start slappin from doing the wild thing on my leg. Anyway's I got back and crashed out a little after three.
