DAY 5
Week 1
BOISE (Idaho, USA) to VANCOUVER (Washington, USA)
via PORTLAND (Oregon, USA)
Wednesday November 8th, 2000
TODAYS MILEAGE – 445 miles or 716 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 9030 miles or 14532 kilometres
We left Boise in the middle of a snow storm which saw our first 170 miles (270 kilometres) of the journey undertaken at speeds ranging between 20-40 mph (30-60 kph). This was due to poor visibility, rain, sleet, snow and ice. Once we got through all that crap, we were able to motor on up to take a look at Horsetail Falls then Multnomah Falls.
From there it was off to the Nike Factory Store in Portland (Oregon), before literally stumbling across Jake's Famous Crawfish. We all thought it was an excellent dining experience, and I'd have to say it was one of the best seafood feeds I'd had in a long while.
We made the short trip across the Columbia River into Vancouver (Washington) where we camped the night at the Holiday Inn Express Vancouver North - Salmon Creek.
We did a fair few miles today, as our aim was to get close to Seattle (Washington) without coming to grief on the snow covered roads - I reckon we achieved that goal today.
