Hobbiton Movie Set
It took us a bit over an hour to cover the 50 miles (80 kilometres) to the Hobbiton Movie Set, just outside Matamata.
At $84.00 NZD ($56 USD/$76 AUD) per person, they certainly don't miss you in what is essentially walking up and around a hill, that is a farmers back paddock and a set of the The Lord of the Rings movie series.
There are no actual set buildings that you can enter as the Hobbit houses are just facades. A visit to the Green Dragon Inn at the end of the tour provides the opportunity to sample a complimentary beverage from the Hobbit Southfarthing range.
