Waiau was established in the 1860's and is a small village located in North Canterbury. Apparently it quickly became an important farming and transport hub when the road to Kaikoura opened and the railway through Canterbury was built.
For us, there was a far more important and pressing need - a late afternoon thunderbox stop!
