Birthplace of Paul Bunyon
Tuesday May 18th, 1999
Bangor's major claim to fame is that during the 19th century, it was the one time lumber capitol of the world.
This was due in part, to having as many as 300 to 400 timber mills in 24x7x365 operation, in the surrounding area at the time.
The town also claims to be the birthplace of Paul Bunyan, a giant lumberjack in American folklore.
