Around 7AM, all sixteen of us piled into the Mercedes Sprinter van, filling all available seats and spaces and headed northeast to our first stop of the day, the Restaurant el Crucero in Campeche state, nearly 2½ hours from Palenque.
Aside from an open-sided lean-to corrugated iron shed with iffy looking food and ever more dubious looking thunderboxes - there was fuck all you could say about the stop other than it got you out of the cramped 'cattle cruiser' for 15 minutes.
