Palacio de Bellas Artes

Thursday March 28th, 2019

The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) often called the 'Cathedral of Art in Mexico', anchors the western corner of Mexixo city's Alameda Central park.

Italian civil engineer and architect Adamo Boari began construction in 1904 on the Neoclassical/Art Nouveau (exterior) and Art Deco (interior) structure, which rose from the site that was the Convent of Santa Isabel, whose church was built in 1680. Originally scheduled to take four years to complete, it actually took 30 due to the Mexican Revolution, bureaucracy and funding which saw it finally completed in 1934.
