Saturday April 20th, 2019

Located 20 minutes south of the centre of town, Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca (Castillo del Morro), has protected the Bahía de Santiago de Cuba (Santiago de Cuba Bay) from pirates, buccaneers and corsairs like Sir Francis Drake and Captain Henry Morgan since 1590.

The fortress was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, cited as the best preserved and most complete example of Spanish-American military architecture.
