Roatán is home to Daniel Johnson's Monkey & Sloth Hang Out, which was established as a safe haven for the animals of owners who either realised that could not manage or care for exotic pets properly, or who were expats returning home.
For $12 USD, visitors are able to interact with Roatán sloths, Capuchin or "organ grinder" monkeys, Scarlet Macaws and an assortment of parrots. Other animals include the indigenous Agouti (Roatan Island rodent), the Guiana (Squirrel monkey) and the Coati (South American raccoon), that is only seen in this part of the world.
