The most celebrated of all the roman fountains is the Fontana di Trevi, covering the complete side of a small square.
|
It was built by Nicola Salvi at the charge of Pope Clement XII, after a sketch by Bernini.
|
Literally tens of thousands of people a day visit the Trevi fountain. This shot was taken around 7 p.m. at night.
|
Many people (including us) mistook this building for the Pantheon.

Romans generally slow down only enough to maim and not kill you.

We think the saying "Fortune Favors The Brave" was coined by Italian drivers. Fitzy's driving style really fitted in with the Italians. |
This is one of many squares lit up at night.

Rubber necks on their way to add Lira to the Pontiff's coffers.
|
We left the Vatican around 11:30 and turned the corner into St. Peters square and found a heap of people looking at a small figure in the distance.
|
Upon closer inspection we found it to be Pope Paul II on his regular Wednesday morning mass that happens every month.
|
Here we are trying to get a photo together without someone running off with our camera.
|
This photo does not do justice to the size of St. Peters square. They can fit in over three hundred thousand standing people every Easter.

We've dined from Asian, Egyptian, Greek and European "cholera carts", today it was Italy's turn.

After a while, fountains seemed to be breeding in Rome. Everywhere we went, there was a fountain.

A little pizza, a little pasta and a little vino. Lunch was great.

This is considered a compact car in Italy. It's barely six feet long and three feet wide. Compact, yeah right, more like pigmy.

Waiting for the shuttle bus on the steps of a local church.
