Paronella Park was built in the 1930s by José Paronella, a Spanish immigrant from the Catalan region.
José Paronella hand built facilities including tennis courts, a cinema, a ballroom inspired by Spanish castles to provide entertainment for the public and in 1933 - North Queensland's first hydro electric plant to power the 13 acre / 5 hectare park.
