DAY 22

Week 4

TE ANAU (Southland, NZL) to INVERCARGILL (Southland, NZL)

Saturday May 5th, 2018

TODAYS MILEAGE – 133 miles or 214 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 4,802 miles or 7,728 kilometres

Today would entail a leisurely drive into New Zealand's southernmost and westernmost city - Invercargill.

If the truth be told, Invercargill to me was more anonymous than a wrong phone number, but that all changed when I watched Anthony Hopkins portray Burt Munro in the World's Fastest Indian, which is one of them great "battler, feel good, true story" movies.

On the way, we stopped at the Otahu Flat School that operated from 1913 to 1942 as well as the longest wooden suspension bridge in New Zealand, located on the Waiau River just outside Clifden.

Our Air B&B accommodations at Marama Lodge was initially a bit of an eye opener due to the naming of Marama Street. Unbeknown to us, the street has a North and South side, depending on which side of Dunns Road you're on. Our GPS put us on the North side where we found the sign announcing the Four Winds Clothing Optional Retreat.

It was pretty funny actually, the girls were about as keen as a trainee javelin catcher to head on down the driveway and at 12C (53f) ..... ET and I weren’t that keen to give our 'wedding tackles' a public airing.
