ECHUCA (Victoria, AUS) to YARRAWALLA (Victoria, AUS)

TRIP MILEAGE – 1,679 miles or 2,702 kilometres
At the recommendation of a couple of great guys - Mark & Tony, the owners of the National Holden Motor Museum, my first stop of the day was about 4 miles (6 km's) south of Eucha - the The Great Aussie Beer Shed & Heritage Farm Museum.
As museums go, it was fascinating, interesting and trip down memory lane, but if you're expecting Musée du Louvre or The Smithsonian type displays or facilities, then you'll be sorely disappointed. But don't let that stop you from visiting, as owner Neil Thomas has put together a wide & varied collection of iconic Aussie products that is well worth a visit.
I returned to the Echuca Nirebo Motel to grab my gear and check out. I also got the opportunity to again thank friendly staff for all their generosity in sharing their local knowledge and recommendations - great peoples.
I headed out west through Pyramid Hill out to Karlie Schmidt's family sheep property in Yarrawalla. I met Karlie on last years "African Adventures" trip and had kept in contact through Social Media, which culminated in an invite to spend Christmas "on the farm".
We spent the evening out at Wychitella, where Karlie's parents invited us to a pre-Christmas gathering and dinner at the Wychitella Railway Hotel.
To call Wychitella a "one horse town" would be both generous and a stretch. It's one of those small country towns consisting of a couple of houses and a pub - where you'd meet the entire population with a couple of handshakes in the Public Bar.
If the truth be told, I was in my element and had a ball just hanging out an chatting with all and sundry, no matter if it was scrounging around a seemingly abandoned house, or propped up at the public bar or on the bench on the main street with a beer in one hand and performing the 'Aussie salute' with the other. For mind, I was in a happy place.
