DAY 136c

Week 20

WELLINGTON ~ World Golden Oldies Rugby Festival – Day VI (Wellington, NZ)

DINGOES: Team Dinner

Friday November 3rd, 2006
TODAYS MILEAGE – 7 miles or 11 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 24971 miles or 40187 kilometres

As is tradition with the Alice Springs Dingoes Rugby Club, a formal team dinner is part of the festival experience and this year was no exception. We had managed to organize a sit down buffet style dinner in one of the ballrooms of the swank James Cook Hotel ~ Grand Chancellor, courtesy of a relative of one of the team members.

This year’s dinner was a special event for several reasons. It started with a moment for our fallen comrade Hugh, who was still in hospital after surgery on his fractured leg. A shitty place to be during a rugby festival, but he was with us in spirit ..... and trust me, many spirits were partaken upon in his name.

Those attending helped Roscoe (50th) and Fitzy (40th) celebrate their respective birthdays, as well as recognizing the tireless efforts of Roscoe and Marie in ensuring that the Dingoes made it to Wellington for the 16th World Golden Oldies Rugby Festival.

Top billing of the evening overshadowed the precedings somewhat. During the week there was a Special General Meeting of the Club called and it was unanimously decided to honour Roscoe by presenting him with Life Membership of the Alice Springs Dingoes. I think I echo everyone sentiments by simply stating "Good onya mate".

And off into the wee small hours we went ...... Be Happy
