DAY 88

Week 13

CORINTH (Texas, USA) to DUMAS (Texas, USA)

Saturday September 16th, 2006
TODAYS MILEAGE – 390 miles or 628 kilometres
TRIP MILEAGE – 10149 miles or 16333 kilometres

My 4 year old niece Myah had me playing with Barbie dolls and pink soccer balls, so I reckoned it was time to hit the "frog & toad" (road) as I'm becoming part of the furniture. Be Happy

I was contemplating staying another night, but due to some tight scheduling I decided that having an extra day would ensure that I would not have any dramas. It took about an hour to check out of the RV resort due to a billing mix up with the online reservation, but I was on the road about 11 o'clock.

I planned on heading North through Oklahoma City (Oklahoma) to Salina (Kansas) and West over to Denver (Colorado), but as I was going through Gainesville (Texas) I thought "bugger it, as I'd done that route back in February". So I hung a lefty and headed West towards Amarillo (Texas).

About an hour on the road and the worms started biting. I pull into the small town of Muenster (Texas) which appears to have German heritage due to the amount of sausage shops and stop at The Center Restaurant & Tavern on main street for a feed. I had on of the best schnitzel sandwiches I've had in a long time, as well as a piece of awesome pie, all for under 10 bucks. Wicked!!!

I kept on joogin' down the road through Amarillo and up North for the best part of 6 hours before pulling into my favorite RV hotel chain, the Wal–Mart Astoria!!! The thing that struck me was that how green the countryside was. By no means was it lush or tropical, but it was green for miles. I suppose I've always expected Texas to be dry and dusty like to the old Westerns I used to watch.

That's it for the day, check ya tomorrow.
