French Bay

Akaroa was one of those 'drive to the end of the road to see what's there' moments for the three of us.

What we found was a small town of 650 people, located on the sheltered volcanic harbour of French Bay, that was settled in 1840 by the French. Akaroa is known for its rare small Hector’s dolphins and 19th century French architecture.
