The "Culture Vulture" Tour
Monday September 15th, 2008

Today was the last day in Ireland and we could leave without showing you the path we had to take from the reception of the Walton Hotel to Room 145. As you can see, it’s a cut lunch and a waterbag to get there, so you wouldn’t want to be pissed trying to find your way home.

The short 218 mile (351 kilometre) flight from Dublin (IRL) to Edinburgh (SCO) was followed by a 155 miles (249 kilometres) drive North to Inverness in weather varying from cloudy to pelting rain.

Our digs for the night was the Beaufort Hotel, which stood stately on Culduthel Road, but “modern” renovations on the interior ruined what charm the place had. We ended up at the Beaufort after the hotel we were hoping to stay in was booked. The receptionist rang them and basically demanded the local rate of £75.00 ($183.00AUD) including breakfast instead of the £145.00 ($353.00AUD) going rate. Good on her, we reckon.

Jungle and I headed out on foot from the Beaufort, in search of the evening meal and happened upon La Tortilla Asesina (The Killer Tortilla), a Spanish tapas restaurant. We shared a table with a Spanish tourist couple who explained the whole meaning of what tapas is, which only added to us thoroughly enjoying a wonderful meal.

Tomorrow, were off to John ‘O Groats.
