Iglesia Virgen Milagrosa (Matriz de Miraflores Church)

Thursday September 11th, 2014

Not a lot of info that I can give on the Church of the Miraculous Virgin, as most of my research turned up very little and what little that there was, it was in Spanish.

No dramas for me though, I just loved the architecture and intricate finishes.

An interesting fact that I was able to uncover about the church is that it is a controversial sanctuary for a population of feral cats. The park behind the church is home to about 120 stray cats, fed by an army of volunteers.

This explained why there was a huge amount of felines wandering around, seemingly sociable and friendly.

However - it is not all a feline nirvana. Every September, a local cat-eating festival is held just south of Lima in the town of San Vicente de Cañete. During this period volunteers stand guard to ensure that the cats don’t end up as part of the menu.
