22nd WORLD GOLDEN OLDIES RUGBY FESTIVAL

Christchurch, Canterbury Region, New Zealand

FESTIVAL CLOSING CEREMONY & FAREWELL DINNER

DAY 7b

Saturday April 28th, 2018

There had been a fair amount of drizzling rain throughout the day and the Golden Oldies had all us Alice Springs Dingoes on table 99 that was literally ankle deep in water. There was also a leak in the tent that was dripping down on all of us. Rather than get too concerned, we picked up all our tables, lifted them over the other diners and sat them down in an open area just in front of the bar area - win/win all round I reckon.

The major downer for the evening was witnessing a punch up between two local Kiwi teams that saw the closure of the bars at around 9PM, barely two hours into the Farewell Dinner.

In all the Golden Oldies Rugby Festivals I've been to, this is the only time I've seen any agro of any sort and I was both disappointed and upset by it. Hopefully the organisers don't allow those involved to participate in any more festivals because of their stupidity.
